The only Bosch tool I regret buying
After buying too many budget priced tools, I decided about 10 years ago to stick to Bosch tools. They were a little pricey, but well designed, well built and, above all, worked well. That was until I bought the DMD4K. I cannot think how Bosch brought this to market. It simply doesn't work, or put another way, it works too well - it constantly detects things that are not there! Wall studs that don't exist, metal fittings not present, and worst of all, any electrical cable up to 18 inches away will signal a response. I even went to the trouble of making a "small test wall", complete with studs, metal angle pieces and a live (110volt) cable, so I could see what I was testing. The result was as expected. The unit detects things that aren't there and misses items that are. I exchanged the unit for another one explaining that it was obviously defective, but the replacement one was no better. So, I slung it up onto a shelf and there it stays collecting dust while I happily use a cheap yellow one I bought years ago that works like a dream. Moral: High price doesn't necessarily mean quality.

Needs some getting used too
I found this tool in the clearance rack for more than 50% off. I would not have bought it at the original price, but for the sale price it sounded good, and i needed one for some projects. It seemed to work fine to find a stud to mount my TV on the wall, but was touchy trying to install a handrail. Its a little difficult to know 100% if I was at a stud. I'm sure that with more use I will become more familiar with it and could effectively use all of the features, but I am glad I did not pay full price. It was a good deal in the end.
I would recommend it - if its on sale
